CHENNAI: The Directorate of Medical Education officials are in the process of preparing rank list for medical admissions based on NEET this year. Speaking to Express, an official said, “We got an oral instruction from Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan to prepare rank list based on NEET by August 14.”

On Friday, Express carried a report saying that this year medical admissions are likely to be conducted through NEET. “If the ordinance does not get Centre’s prior approval in two days or so, the State will conduct medical counselling based on NEET,” the official said.

As per the Medical Council of India’s rules and the Supreme Court’s order, the State should have completed the counselling before August-end. But, it is yet to start the counselling.
The counselling this year is delayed due to the legal issues. The State was waiting to get an exemption from NEET.

The State also passed two  NEET Bills in the Assembly and sent them for the Presidential assent. But till date, it could not obtain the assent. On Friday, the Supreme Court upheld the Madras High Court’s order cancelling the Government Order on 85 per cent reservation for State Board students.
