Govt offices celebrate I-Day

Marking the country’s 71st Independence day, top State government officials celebrated it with patriotic fervour.

CHENNAI: Marking the country’s 71st Independence day, top State government officials celebrated it with patriotic fervour. On Tuesday, Corporation Commssioner D Karthikeyan hoisted the national flag and gave away `4 lakh worth cheques as bank loans to facilitate women self-help groups to set up business. 
Seventy-five members of the staff of GCC, including Deputy Commissioner, Works, M Govinda Rao, were awarded certificates of appreciation for their services. 

Indira Banerjee, Chief Justice of the Madras High Court hoisted the national flag at the court premises. M Malik Feroze Khan, State Election Commissioner,  hoisted the national flag in the office at Arumbakkam.
Vice-Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University, S Geethalakshmi, hoisted the national flag in the institution’s premises.Vashishta Johri, General Manager, Southern Railway, unfurled the national flag at the RPF Parade Ground at  Ayanavaram.

He inspected a guard of honour by RPF personnel. “The much awaited Chennai- Madurai (497 km) doubling with electrification project would be completed by December this year. New lines such as Karaikudi- Pattukkottai (73 km), Chennai Beach-Korukkupet third and fourth lines and Korukkupet-Tiruvottiyur fourth line sections are also targeted for completion this year,” he said. At the ICF, General Manager Sudhanshu Mani led the celebrations.
