CHENNAI: The general council of AIADMK will be convened soon after the merger of factions led by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and the rebel leader O Pannneerselvam is formalised.

The sole agenda will be to oust interim general secretary V K Sasikala who is now lodged at the Parapana Agrahara prison in Bengaluru, sources said.

Leaders and office-bearers from both sides will sit together, most likely today, at the party’s headquarters at Royapettah and decide upon the date of the general council meeting. A resolution will be adopted to set aside the nomination of Sasikala as interim general secretary that happened in December last year.

The office-bearers of the EPS faction adopted a resolution to nullify the appointment of T T V Dhinakaran as deputy general secretary at a meeting on August 10.

A steering committee to run the party affairs will also be formed immediately after the merger.
E Madhusudanan will be back at the helm of party affairs in his capacity as presiding chairperson after School Education Minister K A Sengottaiyan, who was nominated to the post by Sasikala, steps down.

Similarly, Forest Minister Dindigul C Srinivasan is expected to vacate the post of treasurer to Panneerselvam, the position he held until breaking ranks on February 8.

The sources said an organisational shake up would be effected in the general council meeting to accommodate veteran leaders of the rebel camp as well.
