TIRUCHY: A 15-year-old class X boy shot himself to death in a reported misfiring of a double barrel gun at his residence near Manapparai town in Tiruchy district on Tuesday night. A case of suspicious death has been registered by Valanadu Police as the boy was recently chided by his parents.

Sources identified the victim as Kevin Mark (15), son of Savarimuthu, an ex-serviceman now employed as security guard at a bank in Tiruchy.

On Tuesday night, Savarimuthu along with his wife Daisy Rani was said to have visited a relative in a nearby Vellalapatti village with their youngest daughter.
Meanwhile, their son Kevin who had been studying class X in a private school near Kaikatti was said to be home alone.

At about 8.30 pm, Kevin while accidentally handling a loaded double barrel gun of his father was said to have triggered the weapon. As the barrels were pointed at the boy’s head, the bullet reportedly pierced through Kevin’s head leaving him dead on the spot.

The incident was said to have happened inside one of the rooms of the victim’s house and even as the village was witnessing a power shut down on Tuesday night, nearby neighbours did not realise that the noise they heard was that of a gun shot.

Only after the victim’s parents returned home, they found their son lying unconscious in a pool of blood. Valanadu Police was alerted and Manapparai DSP Asaithambi reached the spot and subsequently, the boy’s body was moved to Tiruchy GH.

The double barrel gun was said to be licensed. Valanadu Police have registered a case of suspicious death and are investigating.
