CHENNAI: Further hearing on the habeas corpus petitions from Robert Payas and Jayakumar, the life convicts in the Rajiv assassination case who are currently undergoing life imprisonment, seeking premature release has been adjourned till October 3.
When the petitions, filed in 2012 came up before a division Bench of Justices A Selvam and Pon Kalaiyarasan today, the public prosecutor Rajarathinam submitted that identical petitions were pending before the Supreme Court.
And the Bench posted the matter for further hearing on October 3. Earlier, when the matter had come up on August 18 last, the additional public prosecutor VMR Rajendran had told the judge that he would file a fresh counter affidavit. This followed a snub from the judge as the counter filed in 2012 was again filed on that day.ENS
