Actor Vishal, Deepa Jayakumar's nomination for RK Nagar bypoll rejected

The bypoll which is necessitated has already been courted several controversies and had to be postponed earlier owing to bribery allegations and the two leaves symbol case.

The Election Commission (EC) on Tuesday evening rejected actor Vishal and late CM Jayalalithaa's niece Deepa Jayakumar's nomination papers for the upcoming RK Nagar byelection.

According to media reports, the actor's nomination was turned down after two of the proposer's in Vishal's nomination said it was not their signature. Deepa's nomination was reportedly turned down owing to certain 'discrepancies' in a form.

Actor Vishal, who announced his entry into politics on Saturday, filed his nomination papers for the RK Nagar bypoll on Monday. The actor, who is also the general secretary of the Nadigar Sangam, made an eleventh-hour cinematic entry into the election office with his supporters at 2.20 pm and had to be taken to a private waiting room, with fans further delaying the proceedings.

Deepa also filed her nomination on Monday.
