ONGC denies leaking RTI applicant’s identity to IB

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has denied that it revealed the identity of RTI applicant R Vijayalakshmi to the Intelligence Bureau (IB).

CHENNAI: Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has denied that it revealed the identity of RTI applicant R Vijayalakshmi to the Intelligence Bureau (IB).

Referring to a story published in these columns, a statement from ONGC said they strictly followed the provisions of Right to Information Act. The story highlighted how Vijayalakshmi was being questioned by police and intelligence officers after she filed an RTI application.

“ONGC, Chennai would like to clarify that, this office receives a large number of applications seeking various information under ‘RTI Act 2005’.

We provide information strictly in compliance with the provisions of the Act. Each application is dealt with due importance, keeping high the ethical standards of good governance of a Maharatna Corporate.

ONGC ensures confidentiality of all RTI applicants and does not reveal their identity to any third party,” ONGC said.
