CHENNAI: Keeping his promise he made on the day he took charge as Governor two months ago, Banwarilal Purohit on Tuesday called on senior Union ministers and took up key issues, including early assistance for Kanniyakumari district which was affected by cyclone ‘Ockhi’. Purohit had earlier assured that he would ensure that more funds are provided to Tamil Nadu for developmental activities.

Last month, some Union ministers, including Pon Radhakrishnan, called on him at the Raj Bhavan and on that occasion too, the Governor discussed issues faced by Tamil Nadu. Already, Purohit had announced that he would continue his visit to districts and meet State officials. So far, he had visited Coimbatore, Tirunelveli and Kanniyakumari districts.

Now, during his three-day visit to Delhi, primarily for attending the meeting of the Committee of Governors which had been constituted for  recommending best practices to be undertaken by various Raj Bhavans, he used the opportunity to meet key ministers and took up issues faced by Tamil Nadu.

The Governor met Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and sought assistance for cyclone relief measures in Kanniyakumari district and briefed them about his visit to the cyclone-affected areas.
