The Koovathur police, in whose limits the Golden Bay resort is located, had registered the FIR based on the complaint of MLA Saravanan, who is presently part of chief minister O Panneerselvam's camp. Saravanan had on Monday, at a press meet at Panneerselam's residence, claimed that he had managed to escape from the resort after disguising himself.

Nearly 95 MLAs of the Sasikala camp have been staying at Golden Bay resort since Wednesday, a day after Chief Minister O Panneerselvam revolted against the party's leadership.

Panneerselvam and his supporters had repeatedly said that the MLAs were being held in the resort under threat by Sasikala's supporters. However, an affidavit earlier filed by the police in the Madras high court had said that all the MLAs were in the resort on their own accord.

The MLAs continued to stay in the resort even after Sasikala left the place last night to surrender before the trial court inBengaluru.

On Tuesday, Kancheepuram district collector had also imposed restrictions on Koovathur village under CrPC section 144. Amidst talks of police forcing the MLAs to leave the resort, a large number of  police personnel were posted inside and around the resort on Tuesday.

While the police strength was withdrawn on Tuesday night, an FIR was filed against Sasikala and Edappadi Palanisamy on charges of kidnapping the MLAs, and a case registered under section IPC  Sections 366 (kidnapping), 506 (1) (criminal intimidation).
