‘Modi Govt throttles Democracy by muzzling Opposition’

CHENNAI: Criticising The Suspension of six Congress MPs from the Lok Sabha citing unruly behaviour, the senior Congress leader Anil Shastri accused the Modi Government of ‘throttling’ democracy by muzzling the Opposition’s voice.

Talking to the media at Sathyamoorthy Bhavan, the State Congress headquarters, here on Tuesday Shastri resented the denial of opportunity to his party MPs to raise several issues including beef in Parliament.
Anil Shastri, a special invitee to the Congress Working Committee (CWC), added, “We cannot allow democracy to be throttled like this.”
“Our members wanted to raise several issues including beef in Parliament. It is unfortunate that they were not allowed,” he rued.

Attacking the Modi-led Centre for denying permission to people’s representatives to raise public issues in Parliament, he said, “The philosophy of Modi is to throttle democracy.”
The BJP Government had been issuing a new slogan every day to cover up its failure to fulfill its poll promises, including creation of two crore jobs a year and bringing back black money stashed in overseas countries, he said.

Saying the AIADMK was in a shambles in Tamil Nadu, Shastri called upon his compatriots here to take advantage of the volatile situation to strengthen the party by reaching out to the grass roots.
The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president S Thirunavukkarasar accused the AIADMK Government of failing to uphold the rights, including exemption from NEET.
Instead of upholding the rights of the State, the shaky AIADMK Government had been kneeling before the BJP and the Union Government, he said.

Thirunavukkarasar, who is a former AIADMK minister, lashed out at both factions of the AIADMK for rushing to New Delhi to hold a kangaroo court on the factional feud and not for getting exemption from NEET and upholding the rights of Tamil Nadu students who were deprived of their fair chance to qualify for medical admission.
Earlier, Anil Shastri released the English version of a book, Steps to Achieve Success, written by Congress MLA and leading entrepreneur H Vasanthakumar.
