After demand from DMK, Returning Officer shifted

The Election Commission on Saturday appointed a new Returning Officer to conduct the by-election to RK Nagar Assembly constituency.

CHENNAI: The Election Commission on Saturday appointed a new Returning Officer to conduct the by-election to RK Nagar Assembly constituency.

Praveen P Nair, IAS has taken over as the new Returning Officer in place of TN Padmaja Devi. The EC’s move follows a demand from the DMK to the EC that the Returning Officer should be changed to ensure free and fair elections in RK Nagar constituency. 


Meanwhile, Chief Secretary Girija Vaidyanathan transferred Praveen P Nair, till now the Regional Deputy Commissioner (North), Chennai Corporation, as Joint Director, Adi Dravidar Welfare, the post held by Padmaja Devi so far. Devi is posted as Additional Director of Medical Education, a newly created post.
