CHENNAI: Questioning the stoic silence he observed until rising in revolt, DMK working president M K Stalin on Tuesday accused former chief minister and rebel O Panneerselvam of betraying the late CM J Jayalalithaa as was done by T T V Dhinakaran.

Addressing a poll campaign meeting seeking support for his party candidate N Maruthu Ganesh at RK Nagar on Tuesday, Stalin asked, “Why did he remain quiet until sitting in meditation at Jayalalithaa’s samadhi? You did not utter a single word regarding the mystery over Jayalalithaa’s death.”

Recalling that the OPS-led govt was sworn-in barely a few hours after the announcement of Jaya’s death, he wondered why did OPS not say anything about the issue.

Even when he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on December 19, he did not raise the matter and later in the Assembly too kept quiet on the issue, Stalin said, questioning the rationale behind shedding tears over Jayalalithaa’s death after losing power.

In the wake of allegations that OPS was acting hand in glove with DMK, Stalin trained the gun on the dethroned CM. “The only concern of OPS was to survive in power and swindle money,” Stalin charged, and said he had nexus with sand baron Shekar Reddy.

He also criticised the ex-CM for not even attempting to bring a motion – either adjournment or calling attention – seeking a probe on the mysterious death of Jayalalithaa. He held OPS responsible for the State’s worst financial scenario because it was he who had dealt with Finance portfolio.

The DMK leader did not spare T T V Dhinakaran either. Saying that he was driven away by Jayalalithaa from the party after betraying her, Stalin ridiculed Dhinakaran’s statement that he would implement Jaya’s schemes.

Referring to Jaya’s death, Stalin said his party had, in fact, opposed her politically but did not betray her unlike both leaders of AIADMK factions.
