COONOOR:President Pranab Mukherjee used the occasion of the 159th Annual Day of the Lawrence School at Lovedale near Ooty to urge the students to spread their knowledge.
“You are the fortunate recipients of a solid education, which is a confluence of both academic and non-academic learning. This learning augmented by the independence that a boarding school imbibes in you is a rare gift. Take this gift of learning and spread it all around you, so that every single person who comes in contact with you too can reap its benefits,” he told the students on Tuesday.
“The Lawrence School, Lovedale, with its rich past of 159 years, has given you a vast lineage of traditions and values, which serve as your roots. Building on that robust foundation, you, young children, have to take your school and along with that, the society on the whole, to a new zenith of progress and development,” he said.
Observing that youth can bring about a change in nation’s fortunes, he lauded the school for having done its job of moulding students well. He also hailed parents for choosing a residential school for their children. “As the school accomplishes yet another milestone in its growth trajectory, I would like to compliment the parents for the steadfast support of their children, evident from their presence here,” he noted.
Hailing the illustrious alumni, he said, “Let them be your inspiration and let not this inspiration be limited by capitalist and materialistic goals alone, but include service as well”.Governor Vidyasagar Rao, Municipal Administration Minister S P Velumani and headmistress Sangita Chima were among those present at the event.
