Elephant population pegged at 772 in Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve

ERODE: The elephant population at the Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve (STR) in the district has been pegged at 772, according to a recent forest department survey.

The survey revealed that there are 2,781 elephants in forests in the state, of which 772 are in STR.

A forest department official told reporters here today that the details of the survey have been submitted to the state government and soon the details pertaining to the population would be released by the department.

Sathyamangalam wildlife sanctuary, under which the STR falls is home to several species including Tiger, leopard, bison, monkey, endangered black buck, spotted deer and black buck deer.
