CHENNAI: Medium pacer Ashwath Mukunthan’s 5/26 enabled Tamil Nadu to bag a lead of 116 runs against Kerala on the first day of the Col CK Nayudu Trophy U-23 tournament played at Krishnagiri Stadium, Wayanad. Ashwath’s tally of five wickets also includes a hat-trick as Kerala were all out for 42. Tamil Nadu captain J Kousik was in his element picking up four wickets for just 10 runs.

Wicketkeeper S Lokeshwar was sharp and agile as he took four catches. Five Kerala batsmen were out for nought. Tamil Nadu were 24/0 in their second essay at stumps. Earlier in the afternoon, Tamil Nadu were all out for 158 in 51 overs in their first innings with Anirudh Sita Ram and R Kavin making 48 each.
