CHENNAI: The Madras HC has pulled up Dr MGR Medical University for not complying with its earlier orders directing it to permit SVS Yoga and Naturopathy Medical College and Research Institute at Kallakurichi to participate in the counselling for 2017-18 and its counsel for not able to ‘understand’ the order.

By an order dated March 15 last, a division bench of Justice Huluvadi G Ramesh and Justice R M T Teekaa Raman had directed the university to permit the college to participate in counselling process for 2017-18. In the meantime, the college should rectify deficiencies pointed out by the authorities, the bench had said.

Contending that the university had not complied with this order, SVS Educational and Social Service Trust, which is running the college, by its chairperson and managing director Vasuki, filed the present contempt petition. She said that even though all the deficiencies pointed out had been rectified, the university did not include the college for counselling for 2017-18.The action of the university and others glaringly showed that they wantonly and willfully disobeyed the order of the court, she further contended and sought to punish them.

When the matter came up on Tuesday, the bench pulled up the university and other government authorities for not complying with its order. When the bench opined that the Vice-Chancellor (Geetha Lakshmi) should be called for tomorrow to explain her stand, her counsel tried to pacify the judges by saying that the Advocate-General will appear tomorrow. Accordingly, the judges adjourned matter by a day.
