CUDDALORE: The hot chase of a Tamil Nadu police team that was after a runaway gang of murderers ended at Cuddalore Uzhavar Santhai on Monday. Around the same time, Puducherry Police also reached the spot. “The arrested have been identified are Sevalkodi (30) of Sithalur in Sivaganga district, Siva alias Paramasivam (25) of Vairampatti and Sekar (26) of Sivaganga.

A few years ago, Sevalkodi’s brother Sudhagar was killed in Hosur by Kolanji of Sivaganga. After that murder, Kolanji moved to Puducherry and settled there. Sevalkodi had been searching for Kolanji to take revenge. A few days ago, he learnt the whereabouts of Kolanji and hatched a plan to eliminate him,” police said.

Sevalkodi along with six hired goons came to Puducherry in a car and knocked down Kolanji, who was riding a two-wheeler on Anna Salai, and hacked him to death. Three gang members then fled in the same car.

“However, heavy traffic made it difficult for the car to speed away. This helped the Puducherry Police to follow the car. Only a little later, we came to know about the murder,” said Cuddalore Police sources.
The three men were later handed over to Puducherry (East) SP Venkatasamy and Odiansaalai inspector Jaisankar.

Odiansaalai Police, meanwhile, recovered Kolanji’s body and sent it to the Government General Hospital for postmortem. A murder case has been registered, IG Saurabh Kumar said.
