Aadhaar to check faculty duplication in Univ

Anna Univ makes Aadhaar and PAN number of faculty mandatory during affiliation inspection of engg colleges

COIMBATORE: Private engineering colleges can no longer have same faculty members working in more than one technical institution during the Anna University affiliation process. The University has made Aadhaar number and PAN number of the faculty members mandatory during the affiliation inspection.

In a letter to the principals of affiliated colleges, Anna University Registrar K Ganesan has said, as the government has made it mandatory to link Aadhaar number / PAN of the faculty members to the operating of bank accounts, it has been decided by the university that every faculty members should have valid Aadhaar number / PAN from this academic year onwards.

“This may be considered as a mandatory requirement. At the time of inspection, faculty members should produce Aadhaar card in addition to certificates,” he added.

A decision in this regard has been taken by the university syndicate at its meeting held last month.
Explaining how private engineering colleges are manipulating the details of faculty members during Anna University’s affiliation inspection, a senior official of the university says, “Engineering colleges need to have specified faculty strength for running any course. During the affiliation inspection, private engineering colleges show a faculty member as working in their institution. Later on, the same faculty member is shown as working in another institution, when the affiliation inspection is carried out in that institution.”

“To check this, we have decided to make Aadhaar and PAN numbers mandatory for the faculty members. Once the Aadhaar and PAN numbers are entered into the University computers, it will be easy for us to check whether the same faculty member is shown by two different engineering colleges,” the official explains.

It is to be noted that the Medical Council of India has also made Aadhaar number mandatory for the teaching faculty members in medical colleges.
