CHENNAI: Six days after the Madras High Court gave a nod to the Central Crime Branch of the Chennai city police to register a first information report against actor Kamal Haasan if a prima facie offence was found about his tweet expressing doubts over the role of ‘nilavembu kuduneer’ in curing dengue, the police on Monday closed the petition.
The Inspector of the Cyber Crime wing, Central Crime Branch, wrote to petitioner G Devarajan, saying that there was no basis to take any action against the actor’s tweets.
On October 25, Devarajan filed a petition in the Madras High Court, urging it to direct the police to register a case against the actor for his tweet. Justice M S Ramesh passed the order to the police to investigate the case and if needed, to file an FIR.
“There were no grounds to take action against the actor as there were no criminal intention. The action had only tweeted to his fans not to distribute ‘nilavembu kudineer’ without advice from the doctors,” said a senior police officer.
