TIRUPUR: Six persons travelling in an SUV died after a government bus collided with the vehicle in Tirupur on Friday. The car driver suffered grievous injuries and is undergoing treatment at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital.

According to sources, the bus was on its way from Erode to Coimbatore when it hit an SUV  from behind on Thekkalur bypass bridge near Avinashi. In the impact, the car fell down from a height of 25 feet. All six passengers in the SUV died on the spot. However, none of the passengers in the bus was injured.

The deceased were identified as Tiruchengode Cooperative society chairman N Kandhasamy (64), Cooperative society, president K Kathirvel (50), Kachipally cooperative society secretary R.Rathinam (55), R Nallasamy (69), K Muthusamy (50) and P Balamurugan (54), driver. Kandhasamy is also the Tiruchengode ADMK secretary.

They were on their way to Coimbatore International Airport Coimbatore to catch a flight to New Delhi to participate in a Cooperative society development meeting.  The bodies of the deceased were sent for postmortem to Coimbatore Medical College hospital. Avinashi police have filed a case and are investigating.
