NAGERCOIL:THE car used by the Kanniyakumari Collector and 10 computers were impounded by court officials on Monday after authorities concerned failed to pay part of a compensation for acquiring land on behalf of the TN Housing Board
A 42 cent land in Vallankumaravilai near Nagercoil owned by three persons, Sanmugasundaram, Sivagami Ammal and Prabu, had been acquired on behalf of TN Housing Board in 1993. A compensation of `1.28 lakh was fixed as compensation for land taken.
After authorities failed to pay the compensation, the land owners had filed a case at the Nagercoil court in 1994. In 2000, the court ordered the land owners to be compensated with interest. However, only part of the total amount was reportedly paid. As the land owners approached the court for a second time, the Nagercoil 1st Additional JM Court ordered the attachment of properties.
