The woman, identified as Subha, a mother of two girls, delivered a boy at the Chidambaram GH on Saturday. Since she was suffering from fever and anaemia, she was referred to JIPMER and admitted to the ICU, where she succumbed on Tuesday morning. Dengue and multi-organ dysfunction were stated as the cause of death in the medical records. The locals claimed she had fever from September 18 and had undergone treatment at the Palayamkottai Primary Health Centre.

Following this, the health department screened the village for new cases. Jawaharlal, deputy director of health, Cuddalore, said, “Health department staff thoroughly screened the village to find larvae of dengue mosquito and fogging was carried out.” The department is scrutinising the number of in-patients with fever at hospitals every day. “If more cases are reported from a particular place, we immediately send a team to carry out fogging and examine the residents,” said Jawaharlal.
