CHENNAI: The Election Commission on Thursday declined to give more time to the T T V Dhinakaran faction of AIADMK to file additional documents and to adjourn the hearing regarding the dispute over the Two Leaves symbol scheduled for October 6. Any additional document it wants to file must be done by Friday and the hearing will be held as scheduled on October 6.

Law Minister C Ve Shanmugam and Revenue Minister R B Udhayakumar along with Manoj Pandian will be submitting additional affidavits from general council members as on December 5, 2016, expressing their support to Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, before the EC on Friday.

“There is an order of the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court to decide the case by October 31. Therefore, you may file written submissions and documents by September 29,” a communication from the EC to Dhinakaran said.

The EC, in its reply to Dhinakaran, further explained: “For deciding the dispute, the Commission needs to look into the position as existing at present, and the support base of the two groups of AIADMK at the present stage. lt is for this purpose that the Commission has asked the two groups to make written submissions and to file supporting documents.”

However, the EC informed Dhinakaran that if he wished to file any objections/rejoinder against the submissions and documents that might be filed by the other group, he could do so by October 4, after serving copy on the other side.
