TIRUCHY: Defying DMK working president MK Stalin’s warnings, party cadres have erected many hoardings prominently featuring his actor son Udhayanidhi Stalin on the occasion of the marriage of a relative of Thiruverumbur MLA Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi.

The Karur bypass road leading to the marriage hall, where Stalin is scheduled to attend the wedding on Sunday, has many such hoardings put up by party cadres as well as the actor’s fans. One of the hoardings put up by the Udhayanidhi Fans Club calls him Seyal Thalaivarin Thalapathiye (commander of the working president).

Poyyamozhi is the grandson of yesteryear DMK leader Anbil Dharmalingam and said to be a close friend of Udhayanidhi’s. Mahesh’s supporters erected many hoardings with big pictures of Udhayanidhi and one of them carries pictures of the actor along with the MLA.

It may be recalled that Udhayanidhi had to intervene and ask party cadres in Madurai to immediately remove a hoarding that praised him as the “third Thalaivar” in March.

“Given his friendship with Udhayanidhi, Mahesh may get more prominence in the party in future,” opined a supporter.

Also, Mahesh’s pictures occupy as much space on the posters and hoardings as those of local heavyweight KN Nehru, who is the DMK’s district secretary. “Though it is Mahesh’s family function, these hoardings indicate the future course of the party,” said a young DMK functionary.

“DMK cadres are not obeying the orders of their leader Stalin. The party hasn’t got rid of this hoarding culture, which is causing irritation to the public,” said Dhileepan, a resident of Tiruchy.

Udhayanidhi’s pictures were also seen in most of the hoardings and posters put up in Karur, where Stalin participated in a meeting of the DMK’s students’ wing on Saturday.
