Amid tight security, preliminary works for land acquisition for Salem GEC starts

SALEM: As second phase, preliminary works for land acquisition for Green Expressway Corridor started here on Tuesday with tight police security.

The revenue officials started their land measuring works for proposed Salem-Chennai Green Expressway Corridor project on June 18th and completed on June 25th and erupted boundary stones for 31 km stretch out of total 36.9 km stretch in Salem district.

As remaining areas, fells under forest department, the officials waiting to get nod from environmental ministry.

Meanwhile as second phase, on Tuesday revenue officials started survey works where already land measuring works were completed.

On Tuesday morning, officials started survey works (checking the survey numbers of the land to identify the owners of the land) with tight police security at Parapatti near Mallur.

On seeing officials, the local and nearby villagers stopped the officials from doing their works and quarreled with them. Later police took five persons and moved them to police van.

On seeing this, the villagers staged dharna before the police vehicle and protested. Following the protest, police leave the five persons.

After that again revenue officials went to another land in the locality and surveyed the land. Again villagers quarreled with officials and raised slogans against officials. The police took 16 villagers who protested against the officials. Later in the evening they were released.
