MBBS counselling for management seats suspended in Tamil Nadu

The results for AIQ second round counselling was to be declared on Thursday. This caused confusion among the students who were preparing to attend classes.

CHENNAI: The selection committee of the Directorate of Medical Education has cancelled counselling for MBBS and BDS courses in self-financing colleges for management seats that was originally scheduled from July 16 to 18.

In a notification on Thursday, the committee said “As per the order of Madurai Bench of Madras High Court, counselling for MBBS and BDS courses 2018-2019 session in self-financing medical and dental colleges under management quota which was scheduled on 16,17,18 July 2018 stands cancelled. The intimation regarding the reschedule of counselling for management quota will be hosted at a later date in the official websites”.

Meanwhile, Medical Counselling Committee of Directorate General of Health Services also kept All India Quota (AIQ) counselling under suspension. In its notification, the MCC said, “In compliance of the directives of the High Court, Madurai Bench, online undergraduate counselling for the session 2018, including the declaration of second round result will be kept in abeyance till further orders. Candidates are advised to keep in touch with the websites for latest updates.”

The State selection committee had conducted first phase of counselling from July 1 to 7 for government colleges and government seats in private ones.
The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court had directed the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to grant 196 grace marks for students who took the NEET in Tamil this year citing translation errors in 49 of 180 questions.

The court had directed the CBSE to publish a fresh list of qualified candidates within two weeks and has stayed all current proceedings which are being undertaken based on the present candidate list.
