NAGERCOIL: The Colachel police have arrested two women for allegedly injuring an intellectually-challenged minor girl on Saturday. A complaint was filed by the District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) against a private cook, a warden and a person in charge of the private home during late night hours of Saturday

Speaking to Express, DCPO Kumudha said, “We received information that a minor child was abused at a private home near Aalankodu, on Saturday.

“A team of officials inspected the Home, where there were 12 minor children at the time of inspection. The warden and the principal of the Home initially denied the incident. However, during the inspection, we found the girl with burn injuries and locked in a room.

The 17-year-old girl was intellectually-challenged, and our team took her to the Kanniyakumari Government Medical College Hospital at Asaripallam for treatment.”

As many as 40 students attend the private Home for the mentally challenged in Aalankodu, including six girls.
