RAMESWARAM: On Friday, the third death anniversary of former President APJ Abdul Kalam, his family members, State IT Minister, officials, members of the general public and students from across Tamil Nadu paid tribute to the great leader at his memorial in Pei Karumbu, Rameswaram.
In a first, Kalam’s family, led by his brother APJ Mohamed Muthu Meera Maraikayar, visited his memorial, where all the arrangements including floral decoration had been made by the Defence Research and Development Organisation.Following this, IT Minister M Manikandan, accompanied by Collector S Natarajan and P Omprakash Meena, visited the memorial to pay their tribute.
“Ten acres of land have been allocated adjacent to Kalam’s memorial for construction of a planetarium, a conference facility and a parking lot. We have also asked the Centre to launch a train bearing Kalam’s name. It is praiseworthy that the State has declared that Kalam’s birthday will be observed as Youth Inspiration Day,” said Manikandan.
