Three persons have been arrested in connection with an attempt to snatch a cell phone from a 29-year-old German national after assaulting him at Marina in the wee hours of Saturday.

CHENNAI: Three persons have been arrested in connection with an attempt to snatch a cell phone from a 29-year-old German national after assaulting him at Marina in the wee hours of Saturday.

On Saturday around 3 am, the victim -Theho, had gone alone to Marina beach for a walk.

“He was behind the Kannagi statue when two unidentified men tried to snatch his mobile phone. But the victim fought back. Meanwhile, the men attacked him with stones and sticks and escaped”, said a police source.

A few vendors who were at the beach rushed the victim to hospital. During investigation, it was found that he had come on a vacation to the city last week and stayed at a mansion at Triplicane. Anna Square police have registered a case and are investigating. The victim was later discharged from hospital, police said.
Police gave the names of the three arrested as M Satish (20) of Tiruvottriyur, and S Ramesh (21) and B Prasanna (22) of Korukkupet.

It may be noted that on May 30, a 24-year-old Australian woman tourist- Elisa Venderson was allegedly robbed at Marina Beach.

On April 2, despite heavy police deployment along the Marina beach over the Cauvery issue, masked men snatched a handbag containing `80,000 from a woman and escaped.

Similarly, in June 2017, a 22-year-old man snatched a mobile phone from an armed reserve police constable at Marina. However, the police personnel Veeramanikandan chased and nabbed the suspect, Sumesh.

Software engineer dies in accident

Chennai ; A 21-year-old engineer died after his motorbike rammed into median at Ennore on Friday night. Police said Jayapandian worked as an engineer at a software firm on Anna Salai. “On Friday,  around 11.30 pm, he was returning home along with his friend Victor 24 when he lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the median,” a police source said. Jayapandian was thrown off the vehicle and died on the spot. Victor suffered injures and has been hospitalised.

Unidentified gang ransacks vehicles

Chennai: Thirteen vehicles and an ATM machine were damaged by an unidentified group at Kolathur late on Friday night. Police said at least 10 four-wheelers and three autorickshaws were damaged.”The men had broken the glasses in the vehicles parked at Yamuna Nagar.  They also broke the screens of an ATM machine at Periyar Nagar in the same locality,” a police source said.  Police suspect the same gang to be involved in both the incidents. Kolathur police have registered a case. “We have CCTV footage from the locality and trying to trace the suspects,” said a police officer.
