CHENNAI : The Tamil Nadu government is now seeking suggestions from people on the draft Combined Development Regulations and Building Rules 2018 and the last date to furnish their views is August 20.
Once the rules are implemented, it will result in an orderly development besides ensuring safety and security of occupants. At present there are number of rules in force for regulating the development.
The moves comes after Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam said that suggestions and observations were being sought on the draft rules and once the exercise was over, it would be implemented.

According to a release, the new combined development regulations for the Chennai metropolitan area and development control rules for the rest of the State should be adhered to for obtaining planning permission under the Tamil Nadu Town & Country Planning Act and Building Rules and for obtaining building permits under the respective Acts of local government, that is, Municipal Corporation Act, Tamil Nadu District Municipalities Act and Tamil Nadu Village Panchayats Act.

The new rules are applicable to the entire state of Tamil Nadu excluding the cantonment areas. Rules for promoting affordable housing have also been incorporated. Specific rules to ensure barrier-free environment in public buildings for the differently abled, elderly and children are also part of the draft.
