Tamil Nadu: Sri Lankan man held in Ramnad in ganja case

A Sri Lankan national, who illegally landed at Valangapuri seashore near Uchipuli in a fibre boat to allegedly smuggle ganja, was arrested by Q-branch police on Wednesday.

RAMANATHAPURAM: A Sri Lankan national, who illegally landed at Valangapuri seashore near Uchipuli in a fibre boat to allegedly smuggle ganja, was arrested by Q-branch police on Wednesday. Police are on the lookout for other two Sri Lankans, who accompanied the accused.

The accused, identified as S Sahayapastian (34), a resident of Thalimannar. “Sahayapastian was arrested when he was waiting for his companions, who went to a coastal village, searching for fellow smugglers. He is a Sri Lankan Tamil fisherman. They did not have any valid document. Alleging security lapses in Indian waters, a senior official said that the Navy should have captured the accused in sea.
