CHENNAI: Actor Rajinikanth said on Tuesday that the disciplinary action against functionaries of his fan club was taken only with his knowledge.
He released the statement in the wake of many functionaries of the outfit, which he plans to convert into a political party, being removed, causing much heartburn among the long-time members of the fan club.
The actor said, “Merely being a member of the fan club for 30 or 40 years does not make one eligible to a post or involvement in politics.” He said only those who were not working properly or hindering the activities of the club were being removed.
The statement has evoked mixed responses. A long-time member of the fan club said, “Our leader has extended his support to the atrocious actions of a few state-level functionaries. Our leader says all actions are taken with his knowledge. But he may not be aware of the ground realities. Soon he will know the real faces of the state-level functionaries and call back all the dismissed functionaries.”
