EPS and OPS huddle ahead of verdict on disqualification of 18 MLAs

The meeting took place after Palaniswami and Panneerselvam gave away financial assistance to the poor families of 106 members of the Anna Thozhil Sangam.

CHENNAI: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam on Tuesday went into a huddle with senior functionaries of the AIADMK at the party headquarters. The discussions lasted for around one hour. Many senior ministers including KA Sengottaiyan and others took part. The meeting assumed significance as the verdict of the third judge on the disqualification of 18 MLAs is expected anytime.

Meanwhile, the disqualified MLAs, who support TTV Dhinakaran, are camping at Courtallam after taking a holy dip in the Thamirabarani river. The meeting took place after Palaniswami and Panneerselvam gave away financial assistance to the poor families of 106 members of the Anna Thozhil Sangam. Each family got Rs 1 lakh. Besides, `2 lakh was given each to the families of three party cadre who had lost their lives while engaging in party work, and two persons who had suffered injuries got Rs 50,000 each. In all, Rs 1.13 crore was given as assistance to 111 families.

Meanwhile, the eight-feet tall bronze statue of the late party general secretary Jayalalithaa, weighing around 800 kg, which was made in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, arrived at the party headquarters.  The statue is expected to be installed on October 28, replacing the existing one which faced criticism that it did not resemble Jayalalithaa.
