Ensure supply of quality essentials at PDS shops: Stalin

CHENNAI: Chief Minister MK Stalin on Saturday directed the officials of Food and Cooperation Departments to ensure uninterrupted supply of quality essential commodities through fair price shops. He also ordered the issuance of family cards without any delay. 

While reviewing the functioning of the two departments, Stalin said, “Loans should be disbursed to Self Help Groups, small traders, differently-abled persons, women entrepreneurs and others during the pandemic.”

Computerisation of the entire public distribution system, bringing fair price shops run by different departments under one department, constructing own buildings for ration shops now located in rental buildings, providing basic amenities for women staff, monitoring transportation of essential commodities through online, etc were discussed during the review meeting. Cooperation Minister I Periyasamy and Food Minister AR Sakkarapani, and senior officials were present on the occasion. 

Dairy development
Dairy Development Minister SM Nasar also reviewed the functioning of his department on Saturday. Proposals for enriching Aavin milk with Vitamins A and D, opening of Aavin centres in all educational institutions, etc, were discussed during the meeting.

It was also noted that if the government decided to provide milk for school children, the entire quantity of milk produced by farmers would be procured by Aavin. A separate committee would be formed to fix the milk procurement and sale prices.

Stalin undergoes medical checkup
Chennai: Chief Minister MK Stalin on Saturday underwent a routine half yearly medical checkup at Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre. A release from the hospital said, “After completing his checkup, the Chief Minister left the hospital immediately.”
