Heritage Foods President Refutes Allegations

HYDERABAD: Heritage Foods Limited president Dr M Sambasiva Rao refuted allegations of some MLAs on the floor of the Telangana  Assembly that Heritage Milk Products were banned in Kerala.

In a press release, he clarified that Heritage does not use Oxytocin as the company does not own any cows or buffaloes. A complete ban on Heritage Milk in Kerala is also false, he said. During 2012, the Food Safety Commissioner of Kerala issued a temporary order that one variant of Heritage Milk called Padmanabha (standardized milk) shall not be sold for a month in Kerala, he explained.

‘’We were allowed to continue the sale of other variants (doubled toned milk and toned milk) during that month also. The Food Safety Commissioner of Kerala has later withdrawn the order on our appeal based on facts submitted by us under the Food Safety and Standard Rules. Thereafter, we resumed sale of Padmanabha variant also and continuing sale of all variants of milk till date, ‘’ he clarified in the release.

He reminded that for similar allegations levelled by MLC Jupudi Prabhakar Rao in a press meet, they had filed a defamation suit in XIV Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate at Hyderabad and the court has taken cognizance and the proceedings are in progress. Rao said Heritage is organised dairy, which commenced its operation during 1993 and now handling about 10 lakh litres per day. It is an ISO 22000 certified company, he reminded.
