HYDERABAD: Expressing concern over the spurt in the suicides of farmers in recent times, with no letup in power cuts and no fresh loans from the banks, leader of the opposition in Telangana Assembly and senior Congress leader K Jana Reddy has held the state government and its inaction responsible for farmers’ suicides.
Speaking to mediapersons here on Thursday, he said that instead of music of happiness, cries of despair and anguish were heard on festival occasions, while referring to the suicide of a debt-ridden farmer on Wednesday.
He said that instead of implementing the promised loan waiver, the government had only assured to implement 25 percent of it initially and the banks were not ready to issue fresh loans on the basis of that. He said delay in the loan waiver was also causing the insurance coverage for the crops to lapse.
He said the power woes being faced by the farming community were forcing them to come out on streets in protest.
