HYDERABAD : Amidst the escalating war of words between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh over the issue of power generation at the Srisailam hydel project, AP Irrigation Minister Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao on Sunday petitioned governor ESL Narasimhan for his intervention alleging that the Telangana government was indulging in false propaganda against his government on the power issue.

Uma met the governor at Raj Bhavan here and complained to him about the attitude of the Telangana government over the power generation issue.

Speaking to reporters after his meeting with the governor, Uma alleged that the Telangana government was spreading lies about the power generation at Srisailam.

“The water level is going down to 856 ft at the Srisailam project and we need to protect the ayacuts of SRBC in Rayalaseema. Up to 70,000 cusecs of water is going into the sea through the Prakasam barrage. Our goal is to see that water is not lost.

Farmers need to be protected both in Telangana and AP,” he said.“Telangana has been pushed into a severe power crisis due to lack of foresight on the part of the TRS government and not because of AP,” he alleged.

The minister said he had explained “all the facts” to the governor and had submitted all the documents related to the issue.

Taking strong exception to the language used by Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao against AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Uma alleged that KCR was speaking blatant lies and misleading the people of both the States.

He said power generation at Srisailam was not advisable as drinking water and irrigation water needs deserved to be given priority.

“The actions of the Telangana government would create a water crisis not only in different regions of AP but also in its own State,” he said.

According to him, the Telangana government is aware of all the facts. Despite this, the TS government is making it an issue for political reasons.

He further called upon the Telangana government to resolve issues through dialogue.

“The AP government will not keep quiet if the TS government continues its tirade against us. We will expose them,” he warned.
