HYDERABAD: On a day when almost every politician kept himself busy with Yogasanas, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao held a marathon review meeting with his officials on the arrangements for the government’s prestigious Haritha Haaram plantation drive apart from taking stock of the various initiatives and programmes.

Rao held the meeting at the MCRHRD with chief secretary, DGP, collectors, DFOs and others where a host of decisions were taken. It was decided to take up week-long Haritha Haaram from July 3-10.  Apart from involving all sections of the people in the plantation programme, KCR asked the police department, which adopted lakes under Mission Kakatiya, to participate in the programme.

KCR suggested that Grama Haritha Rakshana Committees should be set up to protect the saplings planted during the drive. “Right from the CM to individuals, everyone should participate. I will not take the aerial route but will travel in bus to all districts and participate in Hairtha Haaram,” he said.

To publicise the programme, KCR also wanted religious leaders -- archakas, church fathers, imams and managements of Gurudwaras -- to be roped in. Apart from Haritha Haram, KCR reviewed several other schemes and initiatives during the marathon meeting.

For the Godavari pushkarams, KCR wanted additional staff to be deployed at all the major temples. Police and officials from other districts should reach Pushkaram districts and supervise arrangements, he said, adding that additional forces from other states will also be moved, if needed.

On the public distribution system, he said rice meant to be supplied through the PDS was being diverted to the black market and directed the police to take stern action against black marketeers. He wanted introduction of biometric system in ration shops. As far as land acquisition is concerned, KCR asked officials to initiate the process of acquiring land for the Palamur Lift Irrigation, Kaleswaram (Pranahitha) projects and also extension of Yadagirigutta-Warangal road.

For orphans and destitutes in Hyderabad, KCR wanted construction of night shelters. KCR expressed anguish over 20 lakh destitutes taking shelter at pavements and railway platforms.

KCR also wanted strict action against gambling dens and said gambling dens, fearing police, are shifting to other towns and farm houses and stressed that they should also be closed.
