HYDERABAD: The talks between Maharashtra and Telangana governments on construction of barrages on Penganga reportedly ended on a fruitful note on Tuesday.
Maharashtra government in-principle has agreed to the proposals of Telangana irrigation minister T Harish Rao during the talks in Mumbai on Tuesday.
Maharashtra irrigation minister Girish Dattatray Mahajan agreed the proposal of Harish Rao to allocate 2.5 acres land in Maharashtra for construction of Chanaka-Korata barrage. Harish Rao informed that Telangana would meet entire expenditure for the construction of the barrage.
The agreements, however, were oral and they could not sign a written agreement on Penganga barrages as Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis was away from Mumbai.
Later, chief ministers of both Maharashtra and Telangana would reach an agreement, sources said. Another round of talks are likely to be held in Maharashtra on November 30 on Penganga barrages.
Harish Rao also discussed about Lendi project with his Maharashtra counterpart. Both Maharashtra and Telangana governments spent more than `500 crore on Lendi project. Despite this, the construction of the project and land acquisition was going on at a snail’s pace, Harish Rao told his counterpart and sought the latter’s cooperation to speed up the construction of Lendi project.
“Early completion of Lendi project will help farmers in both the states,” Harish Rao said. He handed over a letter to this effect to Maharashtra irrigation Minister to take further action on Lendi.
Besides, Harish Rao, forest minister Jogu Ramanna, Adilabad MP G Nagesh, Advisor (inter-state affairs) D Srinivas, Irrigation advisor R Vidayasgar Rao, Irrigation principal secretary SK Joshi, OSD Sridhar Rao Deshpande and other officials attended the meeting. Maharashtra irrigation principal secretary Satish was also present.
