HYDERABAD: For conducting polls to GHMC, nine to 10 months time would be required to complete the task of delimitation of wards, reservation of wards and other preparations. The GHMC is expected to seek 284 days to conduct elections.

It is learnt that of the 284 days, 147 days would be required for delimitation of wards, 102 days for reservation of wards into BC, SC, ST and OC categories and 35 days for conducting elections. The procedural requirement to be followed for delimitation and reservation of wards of GHMC was submitted to the State and the latter would inform the same to the HC as a case is pending before it.

The state government proposes to increase wards from the present 150 to 200 wards through delimitation process. Based on the 2011 Census, the wards strength can be increased up to 172 by adopting certain analogy.

About 30 days time will be required for the amendment to increase and rationalise the wards to 200 for proper representation by Telangana government.
