HYDERABAD: Deputy chief minister Kadiyam Srihari, who was recently elected to the state Legislative Council, resigned as MP from Warangal Lok Sabha constituency on Thursday. He submitted his resignation to Lok Sabha Spekear Sumitra Mahajan.
Srihari was elected from Warangal in the last year general elections. Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, however, inducted Srihari into the state cabinet after shunting out another TRS MLA from Warangal Dr T Rajaiah.
As it was mandatory to get elected as a member of the state Legislative Assembly or Council to continue as a minister in the state cabinet, Srihari contested the recent MLC elections under MLA quota and got elected. Srihari is also holding the education portfolio in the state cabinet.
With Srihari’s resignation, byelection to Warangal Lok Sabha seat will be imminent. This has given hopes to aspirants in the district.
