HYDERABAD:The state government, which embarked on an ambitious project to increase forest cover in the state, has decided to act tough on smugglers and encroachers.

Forest land encroachers will be booked under PD Act. Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, who reviewed the Haritha Haram programme on Monday, asked the revenue and forest officials to conduct a joint survey of forest lands and decide the borders. ‘‘Ensure that not a single inch of forest land is lost,’’ he instructed the officials.

Rao asked officials to take stern action against forest land encroachers and take back every inch of the encroached land. ‘’Those officials, who take the initiative to get back the lands, will be awarded and given promotions,’’ Rao said.
