Tension at Cotton Market

KHAMMAM: Tension prevailed for some time at cotton market yard here on Monday, as farmers  were angry with the traders for not purchasing their produce. Procurement resumed after officials intervened into the matter.

On Monday, hundreds of farmers across the district brought more than 15,000 bags of cotton to the market, only to know that traders were not purchasing it due to a dispute between lorry owners.  Farmers alleged that it was traders’ fault and opined that they should have been informed if traders were not purchasing.

Later farmers tried to enter into the market yard office and raised slogans. Meanwhile police reached the spot and  pacified the farmers.  sMarket yard officials informed RDO Vinay Krishna Reddy, who held discussions with traders and convinced them to purchase cotton.
