Campaigning Reaches Crescendo in Warangal

WARANGAL/HYDERABAD:With just one more week to go for Warangal Lok Sabha seat byelection, verbal attacks, hurling of choicest invectives, charges of poll code violations and counter accusations between the ruling TRS and opposition parties  reached the crescendo on Sunday.

The campaigning for the bypoll has suddenly picked up momentum with AICC heavyweights such as party general secretary Digvijaya Singh and former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar descending on Warangal, which was the epicentre of Telangana movement prior to bifurcation of Andhra.

Accompanied by party veteran and former Union Minister S Jaipal Reddy, Digvijaya Singh and Meira Kumar addressed whistle-stop meetings across the segment on Sunday even as the TRS deployed its key ministers K T Rama Rao and T Harish Rao to lead the offensive for the ruling party.

During the Sunday campaign, Digvijaya Singh and Meira Kumar accused Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao of misleading the people with his “false promises”. They urged the electorate to teach Rao a befitting lesson in the bypoll.

Addressing a public meeting at Bhupalpally, Meira Kumar recalled how AICC president Sonia Gandhi and former prime minister Manmohan Singh had strived hard to create Telangana State, risking the party’s prospects in residuary AP. She alleged that KCR had deceived the dalits by not making a dalit CM though he promised to do so.

“While farmers in the state are distressed, neither the chief minister nor any of his ministers found time  even to meet the farmers, but our party vice president Rahul Gandhi consoled them,” she said. Digvijaya Singh went further calling PM Narendra Modi and Telangana CM KCR liars.

Meanwhile, Union Labour minister Bandaru Dattatreya, who has been touring the constituency along with BJP state president G Kishan Reddy, leading the TDP-BJP campaign, launched a blistering attack on the TRS government over the issue of farmers’ suicides.

While addressing mediapersons at Hyderabad, Dattatreya charged the TRS government with politicising farmers’ suicides in the state.

Meanwhile, YSRC chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is all set to undertake a whirlwind tour across Warangal constituency from Monday onwards .
