EC to Publish Final Electoral Rolls in January

The new list will be prepared after removing ineligible voters from both TS and AP

HYDERABAD: The State Election Commission of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana would announce the revised electoral rolls of both the states on January 11. The new list will be prepared after removing ineligible voters from the existing electoral rolls from both the states.

So far, the Election Commission has removed 6,30,000 ineligible voters under the limits of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). Around 19 lakh more voters from both the Telugu states whose current details are not available, have been served show-cause notices to confirm their identity with the local electoral officials before November 4.

“If they fail to respond to the notice before the deadline, their names will be removed from the list,” Bhanwarlal, chief electoral officer (CEO), TS and AP, said. Talking to newsmen here on Tuesday, he said so far no genuine voter has been removed from the list.

‘‘If any irregularities were found in the process, we will take appropriate action against the responsible officials,’’ he said. The Commission would also launch a door-to-door survey from October 7 to verify the details of these 19 lakh voters.

The Election Commission on Tuesday shared the list of removed voters with political parties in a meeting. The CEO told the parties that they can file objections to the list before November 4. Those who want to apply for new voter cards can also file application before Nov 4.

Bhanwarlal further said that the Election Commission would launch a special campaign for voter registration. Electoral officers will be available at polling booths on October 11 and November 1 from 10 a.m to 5 p.m.
