Special Counters to Sell Red Gram at Rs 160 a Kg

HYDERABAD: The civil supplies department has initiated measures to supply red gram  at lesser price to the public.

Civil supplies commissioner Rajat Kumar on Thursday held discussions with dal millers, wholesalers and traders requesting to  reduce the price of red gram.

Following an appeal by the state government, dal millers and dealers have agreed to open 10 counters in Hyderabad and sell first quality red gram at `160 per kg  and second quality at `135 per kg. It was also agreed to open these counters in every district and mandal headquarters with the assistance of Civil Supplies Corporation to sell red gram at `160 and `135 per kg. These rates are less than the prevailing open market price.

The counters would function with immediate effect, Rajat Kumar said. Every person shall be entitled to get 1 kg at these rates.

All district collectors have been requested to give wide publicity about the location of centres so as to enable the consumers to purchase red gram at lesser rate.
