Not Just Faculty, Private Engineering Colleges in Telangana Have Fake Students Too

HYDERABAD:  It’s not just fake faculty, private engineering colleges in TS seems to have fake students too. A recent enquiry by TS Board of Intermediate Education, revealed that hundreds of students took admission in several engineering and pharmacy colleges, with fake Intermediate certificates, claimed to be issued by Intermediate Boards of other states, especially Jammu & Kashmir.

Despite J&K Intermediate Board not conducting final exams in previous academic year, around 97 students used its certificates to secure admission in BTech and BPharma courses in TS this year. Interestingly, they all studied up to class X in AP and TS.

A senior official at the Board said, “As per our understanding, they all have failed intermediate here.” Some of them even brought documents issued by North West Accreditation Council of United States of America, he said.

Explaining the details of fraud, Board officials said, some students have submitted fake certificates of other Intermediate Boards to apply for the equivalency certificate in TS, which is mandatory to study graduation here. In most cases, same candidate had filed multiple number of applications, using certificates issued by different Intermediate Boards.

Private colleges too seem to have a role in this scam. Most of these applications are brought to the Intermediate Board by the colleges themselves. The TSBIE found 97 such applications with fake documents and lodged a complaint against 32 of them.

However, the police refused to register a case until documents are verified by the respective states.  Begum Bazar police said, “We have received a complaint from Intermediate Board in November. But we can file cases only when certificates are verified by J&K Board.”

The Board also cautioned JNTU here and provided them with a list of Intermediate Boards recognised by TSBIE.
