Pediatricians Express Concern Over Rise in Infant Deaths

HYDERABAD:  The four-day international pediatrics conference, PEDICON-2016, came to a close at HICC in Madhapur here on Sunday.

The speakers expressed severe disappointment over the drastic rise in infant deaths and the hazardous treatment given to children which they termed as ‘shameful’.

They expressed their opinions and stated that pediatricians must improve their expertise or else it will directly affect the health of India’s younger generation. Every medical professional should have the necessary knowledge of latest technology and methods of treating pediatric diseases. Parents should also have the necessary awareness on diseases and doctors should not prescribe medicines which are not necessary for the course as it may trigger other disorders, they felt.

Government-prescribed vaccines should be given to children and one should not skip the dosage even after the scheduled date.

Asia-Pacific Congress of Pediatrics (APCP), Conference of Indian Academy of Pediatrics (PEDICON) and Asia-Pacific Congress of Pediatrics Nursing (APCPN) collectively organised PEDICON-2016 and discussed almost all the health problems relating to children.

Nearly 700 pediatricians shared their experiences and nearly 10,000 delegates from 30 countries attended the event which was held from January 21 to 24.
