PIL against entertainment centre contract closed

HYDERABAD: A division bench of the High Court on Monday dismissed the petitions which challenged the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh government renewing the contract of GSG Constructions Pvt Ltd to construct an entertainment centre on the old Gandhi Medical College premises at Basheerbagh in Hyderabad though the company had failed to undertake construction as per the original  agreement.

The bench said that the petitions were not maintainable in the form of a public interest litigation (PIL).

The Telangana government informed the court that it had issued a show-cause notice to the developer of Urban Entertainment Centre to explain as to why the contract given to him to develop the entertainment centre should not be cancelled in view of the fact that no progress was shown despite entrusting the work long ago.

While dismissing the plea, the bench ruled that the petition was not maintainable and said that the petitions were filed with some political motivations.
