Cultivate non-cotton crops, agriculture officials advise farmers

HYDERABAD: Agriculture minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy released the kharif action plan for 2016-17 with a target to reduce cotton cultivation in the state.

As per the action plan, `29,101 crore credit will be given to farmers for kharif and rabi. In place of cotton, the agriculture department has decided to encourage farmers to take up alternative crops like soyabean, red gram and other crops.

Srinivas Reddy advised the bankers not to create problems to farmers who visit banks for crop loans. The government would release the third instalment of crop loans and wanted the bankers to extend farm loans liberally.
